Pichwai

The Pichwari or Pichwai is intrinsic to Shree Nathji or bal Krishna. The Shri Nath ji swaroop of Krishna, from Nathadwara, Rajasthan, is always placed on or against a Pichwai - the wai or cloth hanging placed behind him or piche.
The Pichwai was traditionally painted with symbolic relevance. Over time, they have taken a more decorative approach but still visualize everything precious to Shri Nath ji. Icons like the Lotus, Peacocks or Parrots, gentle Cows or the Gopis are most prominent in Pichwai art.
Mahesh Vishnoi, from Bhailwara Rajasthan has been painting Pichwais for over two decades. His art is more contemporary than traditional & he loves experimenting. So while, purists will notice deviations from the original, they will also see that the emotion each work evokes is pure, just like the love he Mahesh pours into it.
