A traditional Phad painting by National Awardee Prakash Joshi ji. He has stylized his work here and uses a controlled colour pallet unlike the traditional burst of colours that the art is known for.

Phad paintings are a part of the song and dance performance by travelling kathakaars or story tellers. They are done as scrolls and unfolded as the story unravels. Phad means folds and that is where the name comes from.
