A Royal Affair

Jamdani was a fabric exclusively worn by Mughal royalty. Silk brocades were too warm for Indian summers, which is why Jamdanis were commissioned to be made in the airy light Muslin.

As old as the weave is, it has sustained itself primarily because it can take the shape of any motif the weaver can imagine. Besides the butidar, fulwar, jalar, duria or kalaka, the technique suits itself to contemporary designs & patterns the weavers can dream up.
