The Innocence of Pipli Kaam

Bharat ji is a national awardee for pipli work, also known as applique. While these applique patterns are a huge shift from the traditional pipli kaam, he was quite enthusiastic about these childlike designs.

Traditionally Pipli Kaam was done on cloth lanterns & embroideries of Lord Jagathnatha of Odisha. Today the work done is more decorative & has variety.

Charaka is an institution born to give employment to the local women of the Shivmoga District of Karnataka. They are invested in training them in the art of spinning, weaving, dyeing & everything related to creating beautiful fabrics & fabric products.

These quirky bags are the work of many hands before they reach yours!
