Traditional Warli art is inspired by nature, particularly Trees, as the givers of life. In this series, Madhukar pays homage to these unconditional nurtures. Each painting narrates a story of how a Tree brings the jungles, animals and humans closer to encourage us to co-exist peacefully.
Warli started as a simple yet artistic way to adorn the walls of tribal homes. Walls are smeared with cow dung to create a canvas & painted with rice paste using a brush made from animal hairs. Every year they paint a new landscape, every year the rain washes it off their walls & they start a new painting. The visual stories are inspired from their daily lives & from their surroundings.
On a canvas however, Warli travels the world enthralling people with it’s simple stories.
Painted in basic geometric shapes like straight or squiggly lines, circles & triangles, the art has limited or no use of a palette of colours. Yet, as simple as it sounds, it's consistencies & guidelines give it a unique identity.
Madhukar Vadu, hails from the Warli tribe of Maharashtra. He is a seasoned artist who has showcased his art across India & the world. In this series, Madhukar stays as true to Warli’s original raw & rudimentary style in every story he narrates.
