A Stitch That Saves Lives
The Banjara women in Karnataka struggled for survival. Many of them lived in violent homes with no escape. Malamma realised financial independence was one thing that was a start to giving them some security.
The Banjara women embroidered & stitched their own clothes & home essentials. Sabala trained them in traditional Lambani & Kasuti embroideries to do better work & create lovable patterns like the ones on these hand embroidered cushion covers. Today, the women & embroideries continue to thrive owing to this effort.
Sabala do a lot more. They also work in creating a social & economic system. Whether it is financial aid, educating children or providing moral support, they have created a safe & supportive community for the local women artisans & their families.
